It’s pretty safe to say that we here at MacThemes have almost mastered the art of Mac GUI customization. So when the iPhone came on to the market two months ago, it made our mouths water to imagine the potential of customization- a fresh opportunity to create a totally unique interface.

At first, our attempts were small- a simple icon mod here, a dock background mod there, but in the past few days we have seen a boom in iPhone GUI customization from our community of members and artists. Today, we’ve successfully added a new sub-forum entitled Everything iPhone, where members can post their GUI releases solely for the iPhone.

With this boom, we’re seeing iPhone customization taken to new levels. Resident Artist Jonas Rask, for example, has been very passionate about his iPhone lately; and what does an extremely talented UI designer do when he’s passionate about something? He customizes it! Jonas has released two complete GUI overhauls for the Phone Dialer and Calculator applications, featuring slick black buttons and a myriad of custom LCD backgrounds to sweeten the iPhone’s already-slick GUI.

But the MacThemes artist isn’t the only one pumping out incredible iPhone releases; Senior Member Louie Mantia, going beyond his iPod / iPhone iconset last week, has also started journeying into changing the iPhone’s aesthetics, pumping out an amazing replacement iconset for all of Apple’s apps. What really sells the set though? Louie’s fantastic release is not only a 42-icon collection- an ample supply of variants for the indecisive- but he also includes 8 replacement dock backgrounds, both elegantly crafted for Apple’s wonderful handheld device.

And as if that wasn’t enough, Jonas Rask has released the second volume of his aptly named “iPhone highschool dropouts”, a motley crew of some of sweet looking icons for the NES app, Sendsong, Tapp Tapp and YouTube. Get them right here, right now.
