Back in the Saddle: esXXI

Rick Patrick, self-proclaimed ex-World of Warcraft addict, made a pretty big splash returning to the GUI community after a long hiatus. His mysterious “Saw”-inspired release thread gave MacThemes just a glimpse of one icon, then encouraged forumgoers to struggle through seven riddles to free the set themselves. The event was a big hit, taking thirteen hours to finish and making for an intriguing- and different- Halloween night.

“I’m so glad everyone enjoyed it, the only thing I’m unhappy with is releasing so few icons. I only got the idea the day before”, he exclaimed, “so I had to make the icons and think up the riddles pretty sharply.” Amazingly, he had the first four riddle ideas done in barely a few minutes.

“I actually only intended four, but people seemed to be having so much fun puzzling over them, I decided to be cruel and create another three during the event.”

Above: The frustrating 404 “Wrong.” page was made just for the event, to the suffering of many.

Next was his Transmission package, Second Gear, which held a snazzy Leopard-ready icon based on his older version as well as a heavily modified UI, updated from his previously private modification pack. Monday saw the release of one of his first Leopard 2D Dock mods, sporting a glossy black appearance based on his widely popular theme Niqu. Rick later updated the release with a 3D version of the Niqu dock as well.

But while a week of releases is certainly nice, some are still waiting for updates to Myre and Niqu.

“I’m waiting for Leopard to be properly themeable,” Rick told MacThemes, “Not much point in spending a few weeks for Tiger changes when the majority of people will be upgrading. But I do intend on updating them.”

Rick continued his week of releases with an of his Spaces wallpaper as well as a Leopard-ready version of his feathery little friend, Quackers, both of which can be found in this thread.

But that’s not all- hoping to release a few new wallpapers this week, and something surprising some time from now, it should certainly be an interesting return for Rick Patrick.
