Smooth Leopard Icons Released

Smooth Leopard IconsMost folks, I would say, have just one criticism against the stock Leopard icons: the execution, especially in regards to the texture and color. But leave it to Susumu Yoshida, Japanese icon extraordinaire, to take the matter into his own hands. Building on the concept of Apple’s standard icon model and improving on it ten-fold, Yoshida has released his own interpretation of 10.5’s iconset, brushing up on details most of us would’ve missed and pitching in 4 new color schemes (in addition the standard blue). Grab ‘em at McDO Design: with over 300 icons included in the download, you’ll be glad you picked them up.

Saying these are an improvement ten-fold over the standard icons is ridiculous. In many cases the perspective of the badges isn’t even followed properly. Susumu has once again proven that anyone can copy.

Careful.. you can’t say stuff like that. You’ll get yourself banned.

I lurk here a lot and I do like this Susumu’s stuff. However, and I apply this all the guys you lot masturbate over: They can create very nice ’standard’ boring icon sets consisting of folders and other things, and don’t get me wrong they are great (Quiclook, Cats) but they are just repetition of the same thing.I stop by a lot of the icon designers websites and while their ‘free’ stuff is of a good standard, the paid stuff is always a let down. It is easy to follow the same boring schematic time and time again. I know paid work isn’t anything like the fun free stuff but even that free stuff is them on auto-pilot.

To argue my own point though, at least some people do release some quirky original stuff. David Lanham in particular is al round awsome from free stuff to the paid. Jonas does try to an extent (Slurpee thing) but even his paid work aside from the Microsoft effort is always lacking.

So what I am saying is, it is hard to be orginal and do something unique and often I feel that the same old boring repetition is evident here. Despite the quality being quite good.

@memzee Violating the bill of rights are we? :P Ferdinand can say whatever he wants ;)

You’ve got to admit that Apple’s Leopard icons are pretty dreadful.
I’m glad to see people putting the effort into trying to improve Leopard icon sets.

Shape and Color variations help one to quickly locate different icons. Apple’s all look pretty much the same. I really had to squint to see differences.

Thank the Gods for IconFactory, Panic and CandyBar!

BTW: there’s a new Leopard version of Corey Marion’s SmoothIcons!
