Cake, Sleek Monochrome* iPhone Nirvana

*Edit: Okay, mostly, minus the small color touches.

cake.pngDesigning glossy themes is difficult work. It’s very hard to create an icon with a piece of “glass” overlaid without it becoming too gaudy or distracting, and unfortunately, this is often the case. Some artists don’t need this warning, however, and Max Rudberg seems to be one of them. His newest work with Ocean Observations, Cake, is marvelously-executed; shades of black and white with subtle layers of glass render a result that is different, yet perfectly iPhone-esque. And I must give my kudos to the neon glows at the bottom of each icon, which, while not really necessary, help give the theme some variety. Cake is available at Ocean Observations’ download site, and this MacThemes forum thread has a growing list of contributed icons from various forumgoers.

Unless the definition of monochrome has recently changed:

    Cake is not monochrome.

  2. James Says:

A monochromatic object or image is one whose range of colors consists of shades of a single color or hue…

Cake consists of Three bright color bases, as well as blues and greys… and then black and white.

That’s a lot of stuff for a Monochrome Theme.

It is beautiful, but it’s not monochrome.

  3. Austin Heller Says:

    Okay, *mostly* monochrome. Edited.
