Good Flow
Cover Flow sucks.
It is pretty and while it can, on occasion, make my Windows-toting friend jealous, the truth is that I never use it. It’s cumbersome. That being said, inspiration comes from strange places, and clearly forum member Bandar managed to find some inspiration for naming his latest release in the object of my disdain. Colorflow, fortunately, shares little else with Apple’s iTunes and Finder browser. In its bulbous colorful icons is an icon set of whimsical playfulness. I feel things require balance, so for every black or dark metal system replacement set released we now have a beautiful set of icons flowing with color. It also comes with a template that I’m sure will grow this icon set into a much fuller system replacement.

cover flow is cumbersome–how so? helps me with organization and is very convenient… and pretty, as you already mentioned.

I find that unless i keep my finder windows fully maximized, which i don’t like doing that the coverflow interface takes up too much space and gives me too little info in return, i’m still pretty much only seeing 3 or 4 previews at a time. I prefer either full on icon view or list view. It is ofcourse a matter of opinion, and habit. But in my case i find it far from convenient.

Try the brand new PathFinder 5.0 release. You can have coverflow whether you choose column, icon, or list view. And it gives you the option of dual pane browsing with any of those views. Very nicely done.

I really like Coverflow; the large preview helps when you’re going through a folder of images for a web design looking for the right one.

From a UI point of view, CoverFlow is a disaster. It’s one of the few things Apple has done with their UI that is for purely eye-candy reasons. The simple fact is that you can’t scan through a long list as effectively, it takes up more window space, and on older machines it’s slow. Not to mention that if you’re missing album art, or the application that created the file didn’t create a preview icon, or the preview icon of a file has been corrupted, you get an uninformative blank place holder.
It doesn’t do anything to make my work easier or faster. On the contrary, every time I’ve tried it, it has done nothing but slow me down and get in the way.

does not! ok I don’t use it on a regular basis, but if I need to find an image among hundreds of other images it’s the best way to do that

I disagree that it’s purely eye candy. What other Finder view lets you flip through large thumbnails as quickly as coverflow?
