Description: A dark theme that takes some design cues from Vista's Aero and melds them with OS X's Aqua.

Graphical Intent: Aeroesque's transparency is subtle, not blatant like Vista's, and is actually accomplishable in the areas shown in this mockup; moreover, it has subtle hints of Aqua throughout to make it feel right at home on your Mac.

General Comments: Cursor indicates a mouse hover. Graphite menubar glyphs available without "button." The mockup showcases my Borderless iChat mod 2.0.

Woah, this would actually make me use a dark theme (well at leasts for a couple of hours).

    Nice!

  2. Andre Neves posted on August 6th, 2007 at 1:07 am:

Definitely the most beautiful (and usable) black theme i’ve seen.

    No competition, this = win.

  4. Lee posted on August 6th, 2007 at 1:42 am:

Very, very nice… not sure that kind of transparency is feasible, but very nice nonetheless.

  5. Nuclear posted on August 6th, 2007 at 1:45 am:

    Reminds me of Bister.

  6. Pat posted on August 6th, 2007 at 1:50 am:

@Lee: this partial transparency is possible (e.g. Ruler Aero by the venerable Tom Stoelwinder). Subtle shading gradiates the transparency into the solid color of the metal windows :)

@Nuclear: maybe perhaps because Bister = Vista in Japanese transliterated into English?

Thanks for the lovely comments. Hope to see you guys soon :)

    Veeeeeery nice!!!!

I don’t know about the “no competition” comment, you could do yourself a favor and compare, then you’ll see that there’s plenty of competition :)

  10. Jak posted on August 6th, 2007 at 5:40 pm:

I could do without the blue hues, maybe include an option to change it to a shade of grey? Great theme though, my second fav here after Gradyan.

You outdid yourself with this one man.

  12. chris posted on August 7th, 2007 at 5:10 am:

    amazing.

  13. SpaceCat85 posted on August 7th, 2007 at 9:32 pm:

Cool to see that you’ve continued to work on this theme…I think it looks more refined and streamlined than the original Vista aero theme!

  14. chrislee149 posted on August 8th, 2007 at 5:15 am:

Very slick, but honestly not something that I would use regularly or at all.

  15. Skinnymoo posted on August 8th, 2007 at 4:19 pm:

    Sweet Theme!
I like dark themes and this one looks well thought out, and have a nice style to it.

    Good job.

  16. Gramage posted on August 8th, 2007 at 6:15 pm:

Very very nice to look at. Maybe a light version would be more useable for the long term though? Regardless, very nice.

  17. Ravyn posted on August 8th, 2007 at 6:19 pm:

Looks great now if only I could download the theme

  18. Greg posted on August 8th, 2007 at 6:25 pm:

My favorite theme in this contest. I love the dark theme with the slight transparency and dim lighting.

  19. Alice McGregor posted on August 8th, 2007 at 6:57 pm:

    I want. Now. Absolutely beautiful.

  20. Benjamin posted on August 8th, 2007 at 7:09 pm:

Yep, this is by far my favorite. The transparency is smooth and subtle - how both Vista and OS X should feel, at least if they continue to use the glass metaphor in their GUI’s. Nice colors - everything works well. The progress bars are the least exciting, and while a minor complaint, I always appreciate a progress bar that appeals in some small way. Great work.

  21. WC posted on August 8th, 2007 at 7:26 pm:

Is it possible to download your theme or are you just teasing us?

  22. Philipp Antoni posted on August 8th, 2007 at 11:59 pm:

Alright, it does look better than Vista, but I’m not a fan of the narrow buttons and the huge glows.

  23. William Barrett posted on August 9th, 2007 at 1:45 am:

I want it NOW Nice dark theme. So few of the dark themes work. It looks like this one will. A winner!

  24. Pat posted on August 9th, 2007 at 1:51 am:

@Phil: to each his own. You like large & fatter buttons (Kromo), but I’m not a fan of them—the “heaviness” is overdone (e.g. Niqu, NiCo, AlluvMag, etc.). I think the slimmer buttons are more modern & give the buttons slightly more depth. But then again, are the mockups being judged by a person’s own taste or his view of what the community would want?

so how do we download this so we can test it out?

  27. themer posted on August 9th, 2007 at 5:23 am:

This is the best compared to others - I would definetly use it (if i could)

  28. Philipp Antoni posted on August 9th, 2007 at 8:48 am:

@Pat: They’re called the judges’ opinions, are obviously based on personal tastes, and account for 50% of the final score ;)
(oh and I think Annaon is quite the opposite of “large and fat”, so it’s not like I want everything to have huge Kromo-styled elements)

  29. Inan posted on August 9th, 2007 at 9:46 am:

Extremely good looking. Should look nice on a black macbook.
How do I get to download aerosque?

were did the apple logo go in the menue bar, thats always a bummer to me when i see a good hem but no apple in the menuebar, rofl

  33. Pat posted on August 9th, 2007 at 5:07 pm:

@Inan: I need to win first ;) hope you clicked 5 stars!

@bradfantin: I tried to not put an Apple logo on the menubar, but if there’s enough demand, it could be in an alternate version :)

  34. Ian Smith posted on August 9th, 2007 at 8:10 pm:

This theme is very good, but I don’t want it to win simply because I don’t want the resources of this contest to be dedicated to making OS X look like Windows…

  35. Joe Kohlmann posted on August 9th, 2007 at 8:44 pm:

Pretty good, but the progress bars won’t look quite how you wanted them to in ThemePark.

It would also look just fine without transparency in my opinion. Not else to say really, aside from “why wasn’t this built already” :P.

  36. Ravyn posted on August 9th, 2007 at 10:51 pm:

    how do we download it???

  37. Catt posted on August 10th, 2007 at 5:20 pm:

I like the background very much. Actualy wish I could use this theme on my Windows system at work.

  38. Steve posted on August 10th, 2007 at 11:17 pm:

Wow, this makes me think of an Aqua-fied/OS X version of ByCrom!, my favorite Kaleidoscope scheme from those pre-OS X days…

  39. JR posted on August 11th, 2007 at 2:52 am:

So, any reason why the questions on where we can download this are being completely ignored? :)

  40. Admin posted on August 11th, 2007 at 3:07 am:

@JR.. You’re kidding right? You do understand that this is a Mock-Up contest and only after the judging will the winners have their work made into a theme. None of the ‘themes’ on this site exist yet, ya digg?

  41. JR posted on August 11th, 2007 at 5:01 am:

You know, I never realized this.

So consider this a very sincere apology. Hope it does get made!

    Regards,

  42. Joe posted on August 11th, 2007 at 6:15 am:

Wow…. this is absolutely beautiful. This is the ONLY black theme I’d be able to use on my computer. The little LED-like close, minimize, maximize buttons look really futuristic. Looks really really good, I hope you win this!

  43. MD posted on August 12th, 2007 at 10:42 am:

This is a very well made mock up and I can see some serious talent to polish this to this high standard. But Im slightly concerned that this looks like Vista and everyone seems to love it!! Surely this has been done before bister by Susumu is the obvious inspiration. I do like it but it wouldnt say much to me if this won the competition as it is a vista/bister looky likey..if a vista like theme wins this thing..mactheming is dead! just my opinion..J

  44. André Neves posted on August 13th, 2007 at 2:32 pm:

I hope that if it doesn’t win some good soul capable of creating the guiKit takes the time to do it. It would be a shame not to have this working.

  45. Christian BS posted on August 22nd, 2007 at 3:31 pm:

Amazing - I love it! Hope you win, I’ll download it as soon as it’s available!

  46. xxdesmus posted on August 27th, 2007 at 2:55 am:

If you can pull that off I will definitely be using it. I hope you win because your theme is far above and beyond the competition.
